Animal Sciences

Karen Catchpole

Dr. Karen Catchpole  

B.VSc. (Hons)

Karen has been a CLC tutor for 10 years and she brings great experience and expertise in animal Science. Karen is a practicing veterinarian, now in her own small animal hospital, after working in varied roles over 20 years since graduation from Sydney University with first class honors. Karen continues to maintain active involvement in education in both professional development and in tutoring both vocational and university students. Karen’s field of expertise is in internal animal medicine & surgery of cats & dogs.

Dr. Karin Dreyer-Haasbroek

B.V.S. M.Sc. (Parasitology)

Karin’s love and passion for animals stem from growing up on a farm in South Africa. After gaining her Veterinary Science degree she worked in mixed general practice while completing a master’s degree in Veterinary Parasitology. Living and working in South Africa exposed Karin to a vast range of experiences in the clinical veterinary field: treating patients ranging from marmoset monkeys to lions to the everyday cat, dog or horse. Two years as a Laboratory Vet resulted in helping farmers tackling livestock health problems in a variety of farm production systems. Since her move to Western Australia with her family, Karin has been working in a small animal practice.

During her 20 years as a vet, she has been involved in several research projects and the tutoring of students in various fields of animal science. She enjoys mentoring students and sharing her knowledge and she loves helping students flourish and realise their full potential.

Hospitality, Events, and Business

Thea Roberts  

B.Comm., M.A. (Leisure Management), Grad. Dip. Ed. Fitness Leaders Cert., I.T.C.

Thea is a long term tutor with Careerline Courses and she comes with university academic tutoring experience, university mentoring and a teaching licence. Thea has had over two decades of valuable work history in the areas of education, government administration, hospitality and resort management. Having previously worked in both small and large companies,Thea knows first-hand the responsibilities of integrating multi-departments seamlessly to create an effective management system and successful business partnerships.

Tourism and Earth Science

Adam Darragh   

After achieving a degree in Earth Sciences, with a focus on geology, geomorphology and climatology, Adam moved to the Blue Mountains to pursue his passion for the vertical world, where he now works in the Vocational Education Sector teaching students to be Outdoor leaders and guides. He particularly loves remote Alpine and cliff environments spending time in these areas both within Australia and abroad. This has involved many personal trips and adventures as well as becoming a fully certified IFMGA mountain and ski guide, as well as a trainer assessor with the Australian Climbing Instructors Association. The main focus of Adam’s outdoor work has been abseiling, canyoning, rock-climbing and bushwalk guiding undertaken locally in the magnificent world heritage listed greater Blue Mountains. He has also spent numerous seasons in New Zealand, the Himalaya and the Australian Snowy Mountains, alpine climbing and ski touring. Adam has also worked in Antarctica and on Macquarie Island in the sub-Antarctic, as a Field Training Officer for the Australian Antarctic Division.

Psychology and Counselling

Dr. Nicholas Harris

B. Psychology (Hons I), PhD

Nicholas is a social psychologist; he studies and teaches on topics involving group-level and individual-level behavior, as well as examining the effect of the situation.  Nicholas has been involved in writing textbooks and research papers in psychology. Nicholas’ teaching experience is vast; he has taught social psychology, indigenous and intercultural psychology, statistics, research methods, psychological measurement and assessment, personality, organizational psychology, counselling skills, and ethics. Nicholas has also completed a number of short courses on counselling and suicide prevention, and has volunteered for a number of years with Lifeline. Nicholas has supervised a number of honours and master’s research theses.

Chad Osorio

Master II Business, Law and Economics (current), Juris Doctor (International Law and Legal Studies), BA Psychology (Cum Laude)

Tutor Chad is a recent recipient of a Full Scholarship grant from the French government for his Master II Business, Law and Economics at L’Université d’Aix-Marseille. Prior to this, he worked with the United Nations’ International Public Affairs in Cambodia; the University’s Office of Legal Aid; the Office of the Solicitor General (Philippines); and as a Research Associate at UP Law Center’s Institute of International Legal Studies. A Jack-of-all-trades, Tutor Chad received the Eisaku Sato Award for Brilliance in 2017, a global essay competition supported by the United Nations University and Prime Minister Sato’s Nobel Peace Prize. He has also been invited as a speaker at various international events such as the Int’l Conference on Human Rights and Peace & Conflict (Thailand), ASEAN Youth Leaders’ Ass’n (Viet Nam), and Asian Development Bank (Japan), among others.

Liselle Turner

Content Writer & Founder of SCRIPTIO | B. Business (Marketing), Dip Hospitality Management, Cert IV TAE

Liselle is a content writer and project manager. In addition to her background in advertising, she has worked in the learning and development industry (e.g. TAFE QLD, Mission Australia, Work and Income NZ). She holds a Bachelor of Business, a Diploma of Hospitality and Management, and a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.

Health Sciences

Jodie Walpole 

Bachelor of Applied Science (Food & Nutrition), Advanced Practitioner in Life Coaching

Jodie is a qualified Nutritionist and Advanced Practitioner in Life Coaching.

Jodie brings to Careerline over 15 years corporate nutrition and health experience as a result of working for several large multinational food and beverage companies.  Jodie is passionate about all aspects of nutrition, health and wellness with particular interest in weight management and childhood obesity.

More recently Jodie completed her Advanced Practitioner of Life Coaching course and is a certified Life Coach with hours of practical experience.  As a Life Coach Jodie enjoys working with clients to close the gap between where they are currently in their lives and where they want to be.

Jodie is also an experienced tutor enjoying the challenge of working with students to reach their full potential. Jodie is a welcome addition to the Careerline team.

Environmental Management and Conservation

Theja Abayarathna

Bachelor of Science (Zoology) (Hons), M.Phil. PhD (UTS) current

Theja is currently doing her PhD in Environmental Science at the University of Technology Sydney. Her research is centered around the effects of climate change on the hatchling velvet gecko population in Australia. This involves collecting wild gravid geckos and incubating their eggs under laboratory conditions. Through exposure to a variety of incubation temperature treatments, she has operationalized her investigation which aims to determine the effect of higher temperatures on hatchling geckos. Theja is currently in stage 3 of the research, which comprises writing a thesis and developing manuscripts for publishing. Prior to her present endeavors within the scientific field, she has also successfully completed a B.Sc. degree, majoring in Zoology (specialised field: Wildlife Management) with first-class honors and an M.Phil. Degree in Life Sciences. Tutor Theja’s passion has always been teaching and thus have worked for seven years as a lecturer at various universities. She loves helping students with their own studies.

Karen Huntley

Karen has a strong background and passion for organic food production systems, nutrition and community agriculture.  Karen also has experience and training in Permaculture (PDC), horticultural therapy, community organic enterprises as well as being an experienced bee keeper.

Barbara Tremain 

BSc. (Hons) Horticulture, RHS Adv. Cert,. RHS General, City & Guilds Garden Design, Permaculture Level 3 (UK)

Barbara brings to Careerline a wide range of horticultural experience and knowledge Barbara has a keen interest in herbalism, edible wild plants and has lead into studies of many plant based complementary medicinal systems, qualification as a Bach Flower remedy practitioner and studying Ethnobotany. Barbara has practiced and studied horticulture as well as combining it with her love of travel in many countries including the UK, US and Australia and has also studied Permaculture and runs her own horticulture business. Within the past two years she have also worked for Groundwork SW with 18-24 year old unemployed people, this work and the mentoring scheme has allowed me to teach informally. It has been a delight to nurture the interests of keen learners in horticulture and garden design.

Aquaculture and Marine Studies

Peter Palma 

B.Sc. Fisheries, Master of Science (Aquaculture)

Peter’s expertise includes broodstock and hatchery management of high-value marine fish species and disease management in aquaculture. He is currently a researcher at a fisheries development centre where he studies advanced fish breeding techniques and environment-friendly mariculture operations. He studied fisheries science and fish reproductive biology for his bachelor’s and master’s degree, respectively. Peter has published research papers in his areas of expertise and serves as a reviewer for scientific journals. Over the years, Peter has visited fish farms in Australia, Canada and Southeast Asia, and learned first-hand how aquaculture operations are done all over the world.

Equine Studies and Horse Care

Meg Anema

M.Sc. Clinical Sciences (Equine Reproductive Physiology) B.Sc. Animal Science (Option: Equine Science) B.Sc.Agricultural Economics

Meg grew up training and showing horses in youth and 4-H programs, and then went on to earn Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Science and Agricultural Economics, as well as a Master of Science degree in Equine Reproductive Physiology. In addition to several years of industry experience as a Quarter Horse breeding farm manager and custom A.I. technician, Meg developed and taught for 10 years in a comprehensive, secondary Equine Science Studies Certificate program covering all areas of Equine Science.  Meg considers the horse to be an absolutely incredible athlete and amazing study! Aside from tutoring Careerline’s Equine courses Meg has also taught various courses in equine studies including: Equine Nutrition, Equine Herd Health, Equine Sports Medicine, Equine Reproduction, Equine Industry, Principles of Horse Evaluation, Horsemanship, Applied Genetics, Introduction to Veterinary Science, Animal Anatomy & Physiology, Introduction to Animal Science and more.
