What is Ethology?

Ethology is the study of animal behaviour which examines animal communication, animal culture, animal language, animal sexual behaviour and learning with its importance to training. Generally Ethology is more concerned with the patterns and processes of behavior across a range of groups rather than just focusing on one particular species (see our Animal Behaviour courses).. however in relation to training needs our other courses are focused on single groups (horses, cats and dogs).

Ethology is different from psychology (or comparative psychology) in that it does not consider animal behaviour in reference to human behaviour, but rather from what is understand about an animal’s anatomy, physiology etc.

These flexible courses will work for you if you are looking for a fully tutor supported online animal behaviour course that is not a huge commitment, that doesn’t cost you the earth but will still get you thinking and learning and most importantly help you get where you want. Many students do a single subject as a stepping stone to a bigger thing, or find its enough to help start their journey to becoming a fully qualified animal behaviourist, many students go on to bigger courses such as degrees.

Do I have to know much about animal behavior before I start?

No, our online animal behavior courses assume no prior knowledge and are designed as a practical guide to help you learn.

What sort of support do I get?

All our online animal behaviour courses are coached by tutors who are active in their field which means they are not sitting around our office waiting for phone calls! How long will the course take me to finish?

Generally the courses should take you about 100 hours of study. We give you up to 12 months to complete the course, but you can finish faster. Each lesson has a written assignment for you will receive individual feedback from your tutor. There are also self assessment quizzes for each lesson (non assessable). The strength of our courses is in that each lesson has an assignment, this means you are forced to engage with the content and can’t just skip over an important lesson. By the end of the course you have really engaged and that equals learning!
